I might be about to make a complete fool of myself... 😂

There are moments in life when someone suggests something that feels so completely bonkers that your first instinct is to laugh.
Â
Then you stop laughing...
Â
...and realise they might actually be serious.
Â
Well, that's exactly what happened to me a few weeks ago.
Â
I've been asked if I'd like to be part of the proposed cast for a brand-new television programme called The WriteOff.
Â
Now, before anyone starts setting their Sky boxes (do people still do that? 😂), I should say that nothing has been commissioned yet. The whole idea is currently being pitched to television companies, so it's very much a case of fingers crossed at this stage.
Â
But I have to admit... I'm actually really excited about it.
Â
The idea is wonderfully mad.
Â
Eight bestselling authors are taken to a villa in Spain and paired up to write four completely new novellas in just one week. There'll be deadlines, editing, unexpected challenges and, apparently, a few surprises that even we don't know about yet.
Â
Now, anyone who knows me—or has been following my newsletters for a while—will know I'm a 'pantser'. My stories develop as I'm going along and inspiration often comes from as little as a sentence. I've tried plotting and for me it just doesn't work. What it does mean is that I have, on more than one occasion, written myself into a corner which is where Rob generally comes in
Â
So the thought of writing an entire novella with someone I've only just met when I'm not good at plotting and there's no Rob within shouting distance...
Â
...while television cameras are following us around...
Â
...is either the most exciting thing I've ever agreed to...
Â
or the quickest route to a very public nervous breakdown. 🤣
Â
I do know one thing though.
Â
Writing has brought so many wonderful things into my life over the years. It's introduced me to readers all over the world, given me friends I would never otherwise have met and allowed Rob and me to have adventures we could never have imagined when I first sat down to write my very first book.
Â
So when opportunities like this come along, I think sometimes you simply have to say yes, and see where life takes you.
Â
Now here's where I need a little favour...
Â
Before television companies decide whether to commission the programme, the team behind The WriteOff want to demonstrate that there are readers who would actually watch it.
Â
That's where you come in.
Â
If you think watching eight authors trying to write books under pressure, in the sunshine, while almost certainly driving each other slightly mad sounds like fun (and let's face it, it probably will be 😂), they'd love you to add your name to their supporter list.
Â
There's absolutely nothing to pay and no commitment involved at all.
Â
You're simply saying, "Yes, I'd watch that."
Â
Apparently that's exactly the sort of evidence television companies like to see before taking on a completely new programme.
Â
So if you'd like to help—and perhaps see whether I can survive writing a novella in seven days without disappearing behind the nearest palm tree—you can add your name here:
Â
Â
Whether the programme gets made or not, I'm genuinely thrilled to have been invited to be part of the proposed cast. Just being asked was a lovely surprise, and I have everything crossed that it might actually happen.
Â
Mind you...
Â
Perhaps I ought to start practising writing a little faster and try to think further than the next chapter.
Â
Oh, and maybe warn whichever poor author gets paired with me in advance... 😉
Â
Much love,
Â
Bev xx
